Sugar Loaf Mountain –
What a
spectacular view from the summit. It overlooks the Departure Bay area and
Newcastle Island. Also it very easy to get to and not very far of a drive.
Heading north on Departure Rd. past Departure Bay beach and on though the
Hammond Bay Rd. intersection. Turn right at the next road called Little John
Way. Go up the steep hill for a block and then turn left onto Sherwood Drive,
another short block later, turn right onto Marion Way. Simply follow the road
around a tight corner to the right and your there. Park at the trailhead sign
which reads Sugarloaf Mt Park. Climb the concrete steps that are built into the
rock, and they will take you all the way up to the summit. This is an awesome,
short hike with unbelievable results.
